A Prayer Quilt for One in Need

Outreach Ideas for the Church

When someone has not been in church for awhile because of an illness or injury, they should be lifted up in prayer by the congregation both at church and at home in their daily prayers. Prayer changes things!

Another way to lift someone up could be making a meal for them and their family, who at this point with an illness or injury doesn’t have time or can’t cook a meal.  Sending cards, gifts and flowers is another way to show you care.  Every little thing is greatly appreciated.  A nice and special gift given by the church members might be a Prayer Quilt.  A Prayer Quilt is a quilt made by people in the church.  A prayer quilt is made with squares sewn together and with a cross in the middle of it. The oldest method of quilting is tying knots through all three layers of the quilt, the top, the batting in the middle, and the back of the quilt. This is how a prayer quilt will be quilted. Once the quilt is done, members of the church will each tie a knot while saying a prayer for the injured or sick person. Each knot on the quilt represents a member of the church or their family who prayed for the injured. The prayer quilt is something one can keep forever; knowing that their church members took the time to make the quilt and each member tied a knot while saying a prayer just for them. What a special gift for someone!
