Church Olympics
Church Activities for Youth
Group
Church Olympics event
is an absolute blast!!!
Hey.. we may
not all be training for the Olympics, but while watching them we sure do
imagine ourselves being there and doing a particular sport. Well, now
you can! You can have your church Olympics any time you want but the
excitement is that much better if it is done during an Olympic year.
Make sure you add snacks, music, and medals for the winners to make your
event that much more memorable. You could even have podiums for the
teens to stand on (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) at the medal ceremony time.

For a fun filled event try these versions
of Church Olympics. Have the students sign up for the Olympic sports they
want to be on BEFORE they know what the sport really is.
Church Youth Group Olympics:
| -two
XXL sweatshirts |
| -two
XXL sweat pants |
| -two
bags with the same amount of balloons in them |
|
Object of the game - One person is the "Sumo Wrestler"
who will put on the oversized sweatshirt and pants. The
other team members need to blow up the balloons, tie them in a
knot, and "stuff" them in the pants and shirt of the Sumo
Wrestler. The first team to blow up all balloons and make
a Sumo Wrestler wins. This is definitely one game you will want
to photograph!!! |
|
| -a couple rolls of
toilet paper |
| -a new toilet seat |
| -rope |
|
Object of the game - You can have individuals represent
their "country" for this sport. Tie up the toilet seat on a beam
or a tree so that it will move if it is hit with something. Have
the "athletes" stand pretty far away and try and make as many "bulls eyes", which would be
throwing the toilet paper through the hole of the toilet seat as many times as they can
during a certain time slot. The other team members can be
near the seat picking up the toilet paper and throwing it back
to the "archer". This is a blast! The girls are grossed out
by it, (Even though everything is clean.) and the boys laugh themselves silly. The toilet
paper eventually rolls away to nothing! |
|
| -eggs (not boiled) |
| -popsicle sticks |
| |
| Object of the
game- One person represents a team. This game is done on
the floor. The "hockey player" takes the stick and must move the
"puck", which is the egg, to a far away distance, at the other
end of the floor. The egg must reach the line at the other end
without it breaking. You can have the "hockey player"
either lay on his belly on the floor to do this, or have the
stick in his mouth. If the egg breaks that team is
disqualified. If it cracks that's okay as long as it is
not leaking. First teams "puck" to the line wins! |

|
Skiing: |
| You
will need: |
| -an old
pair of large shoes |
| -two 2'
by 4' pieces of wood cut 8 feet long - nail each shoe to the
center of each board on the 4" side of the wood (These are the
"skis") (If you are having 4 teams, then you will need 4 sets of
these. Or if you have more, you may have 2 teams compete and the
winner of those 2 teams will compete against the winner of 2
other teams.) |
| |
| Object of the
game- The "skiers" put their skis on and start at the
starting line. When the whistle is blown the first skier
to get to the finish line wins. This should be done on a
flat surface. This is much harder than it seems and is a
blast to watch. The object is to slide (drag your skis as if you
were dragging your feet) to the finish line. Everyone has the
tendency to try and walk but that doesn't work, they must slide
their feet. It is up to you if feel they should have poles. |
|
|
Basket Ball: |
| You
will need: |
|
-plastic cups |
|
-Ping-Pong balls |
| |
| Object of the
game- Each team gets one cup and has five team players
with each of them having a Ping-Pong ball. This sport is
timed. All five team players can surround their own "basket"
which is the cup, and get as many baskets as they can in an
amount of time you prefer. There must be a person near each
basket to count how many baskets were done and report the total
to the person in charge. The "basketball" team with the most
"baskets" wins. |
|

This is a church event you will want to
have medals made up for your "athletes" to remember this event by.
Advertise this event well and make sure your youth knows that they may
invite all of their friends to this fun filled church event; The Church
Olympics.
