Writing up a Program
(Playbill) for Your Church Musical

|
| Believe it or not, writing up a Program or
Play Bill plays an important part in having a church musical or play.
There are two important reasons for having a program. One, you will want to
name the actors, and thank anyone that had a part in the production.
It takes many people to put on a play and thanking them in a program is a
great way to show everyone how much you appreciate them. Secondly, you
will want to name your actors and the roles the are playing, and perhaps
even the scenes. You may want to included the following ideas in your
program: |
| |
| - Name the actors and the
role they are playing. You could even take this a step further and
allow each actor to do a write up of themselves to include in the
program under their name and/or photograph. The write up might
include: name, role, age, a list of other plays they have been in,
activities they like, groups they belong to, etc... This makes the
actors feel special and recognized for their hard work. Also, the
audience looks forward to learning more about the actors, and this helps
them relate to the actors in a more personal way. |
| |
| -Find a spot in the program
to include a message for the audience of what your church is about.
Include your worship hours, a list of activities and classes your church
offers, and an invitation to come and worship. |
| |
| -A personal thank you list.
Everyone who helped in the tiniest way should be included in this list. |
| |
| -You may also want to
include scenes, songs, or acts in the program. |
| |
| -If you are having
refreshments, or photo time with the actors afterwards, find a spot to
include this in your program too. |
| |
| -You do not have to spend all kinds of money
or have your programs professionally done. If anyone at your church
has a color printer and can work with Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, your
set! |

Here are some photos of some
sample Playbills and Programs from church musicals. |

A simple front cover stating the church, title
of the musical, and date and times.
("Malice in the Palace" ...the story of Esther when she becomes a queen,
is an excellent 45 minute musical for kids, teens, and adults.) |

We had room on the back, so we wanted to show
the audience the "Footprints in the Sand" poem. |

The inside of this basic
program we stated, a welcome message, a note about the play, the scenes
and songs, special thank-you notes, and a list of the actors and their
roles. This is about as simple and basic as you get. You can
elaborate on this as you feel the need to. |
