"My God Gives
Empty Promises"
The pastor caught my
attention today when he spoke on "Empty Promises." How many times have we
been given empty promises from people and have been disappointed. He spoke
on empty promises he has done, and received. As he was preaching I was
thinking to myself, "Where is this message going?"
He even tells a
story of a boy growing up and all he wanted was a car. His father promised
him on his graduation day that as long as his grades were good, he would
buy him a car. His father became ill but made it to see his son walk down
the aisle for graduation. Afterwards his father handed him a bible, and
told his son how proud he was of him and told him the best present he
could ever give him is the bible, and for his son to read it everyday and
use it for guidance.
His son was very
angry and left not to speak to his father again. Years had gone by and his
father passed on. After the funeral the young man returned to his home to
find the bible still there, unopened. He opened the bible and found a note
from his father saying how proud he was along with a cashiers check in the
amount for a new car.
The pastor tells us
that sometimes promises are there, we just have to reach out and receive
them. Just as our God gives us empty promises:
An empty cross- The promise of an empty cross
is that we have forgiveness of our sins. Jesus died to save us and the
empty cross is our reminder.
An empty tomb - The promise of an empty tomb
to know that we follow a living savior.
Empty Grave Clothes - Jesus was not in the
empty tomb, but his grave clothes were. He has risen, he is alive. The
promise of a life of fellowship with him. |
