"Break a Vase"
Extravagant gifts
have been mentioned throughout the bible. While the pastor continued his
sermon series on "Journey with Jesus During Lent", he mentions the
extravagant gift Mary gives Jesus.
There are many
different forms to worship Jesus. Martha worships with cooking for and
serving Jesus. Mary worship's by cleaning Jesus' feet, and Lazereth dines
and fellowships with Jesus.
We all have a chance
to give Jesus an extravagant gift, something to show our love for Him.
Mary does so by taking a bottle of costly perfume in a long neck vase,
breaking the vase (the neck of it), and pouring perfume on his feet and
then wiping his feet with her hair. This perfume cost one years salary.
Mary was criticized later by some of the disciples who thought she should
have giving it to the poor, but Jesus told them "Do not criticize her or
stop her. For this one moment forget the poor. Her extravagance is
appropriate and commendable."
In show biz before
you go on stage to do your great extravagant performance its good luck to
say "Break a Leg". The next time you want to do something extravagant for
the Lord we can say, "Break a Vase." |
