Babysitting Training Class
Activities for Youth in the Church
Offering a Babysitting
Class for the youth in your church can serve for two purposes.
One, the youth can learn about babysitting and its responsibilities for a
part time job and/or to help out at home and with other family members who
have younger children. And two, to help assist in the church nursery
and primary departments for either Sunday School or church.

Many places and groups like the Red Cross
offer these courses. Find out if they will come to your church for a
session. Most of them even give a babysitters training
certificate when they are done. Your youth will learn many
things that can be related to not only babysitting but life in general
like; how to care for children, being a good leader, being a good role
model for younger children, health and safety issues, and how to handle
emergencies, accidents, and sicknesses. If your church has a library
with computers, some courses are offered on line and the youth could do
the course at your library in small groups. Most courses, whether on-line
or in a class room, are about 6 hours long. Because of the importance
and valued lessons your youth will learn and how it can relate to church
help and functions in the future, try hard to have your church funds pay
for this opportunity for the youth.
Whatever training or course you decide to
use, be sure to share your accomplishments and special abilities the youth
have developed with the congregation, parents, and future
babysitting clients. Parents at your church will appreciate knowing that
someone in the church nursery who is watching their child is a skilled
babysitter.
