Astronauts Read Genesis
from the Moon
Listening to a
powerful sermon on the first four words of the bible, "In the beginning
God", I felt overwhelmed to share this. The pastor was emphasizing how
important those four words are that in the beginning it was only God. I
vaguely remember hearing this years ago, but I felt to mention it as a
reminder to everyone. In the midst of his sermon he mentioned that in 1968
on Christmas Eve, three astronauts who were in the first manned vehicle to
circle the moon, orbited the earth's satellite 10 times before firing
their engines to head home. On the ninth orbit they sent photographs back
to earth, describing their awe at the beauty of the earth, and how the
moon was so colorless. After they stated the beauty of the earth and its
colors they each began to read from Genesis 1:1 taking turns reading about
creation, while millions of people on earth listened to them that
Christmas Eve. |
