Throwing a 1950's Party
can be great fun. Remembering the good old days of root beer floats,
Chevy cars, and records! What could be more fun for your
church youth than having a 1950's party night. A time where they can
learn about what the youth of the 1950s did for fun. Ask some of your
congregation who enjoyed the songs, movies, and times of the 50's to
participate and share some with the younger generation. We had a lady in
our church who danced on American Band Stand! The teens were very excited
to hear her stories. Have them share ideas of what school was like, gym
class, the cars they drove in, and what they did for fun. Having a 50's
party like this not only opens the doors for young people to see what it
was like back then, it also helps the older generation reminisce of "times
back when."
After determining your budget
make or purchase many decorations that represent the 1950's like cardboard
records, jute boxes, posters of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and James Dean.
Have black and white balloons all over the floor and streamers on the
ceiling. If your budget allows hire a DJ to play all 50's music, if not
just create a CD of 50's music to play. Lots of party favors around the
tables would be a great idea too, or use these as prizes for games:
Slinky's, Jacks, Bubbles, YoYo's, Sunglasses, Bazooka Bubble Gum, Comic
books, and Plush Dice. There are plenty of on-line shops that offer 1950's
decorations even for a low budget.

Here's a portable Retro Popcorn Machine that can be used
for many parties and get-togethers including a 1950's sock-hop party,
movie night, sleep-overs and more!
|
Here's an awesome small
jutebox for your 1950's party!
|
Here's a cute Nostalgia
Cotton Candy maker that perfect for your next party.
|
| If you can, have a
movie playing in the back ground. Have it silent so that everyone can here
the great sounds of the 50's.
It all starts with your invitations and the posters you place around the
church. They can easily be made by cutting out circles to look like LP
albums or 45's with poster board. You can also add a jutebox or poodle skirt
on the invites too.
Some fun games would
be, name that tune, artist, movie, or star during the 1950's.
